Colorado Babies: Statistics

WHWB Colorado Baby Statistics

Colorado babies are the focus of Warm Hearts Warm Babies. We donate over XXX layettes each year to over XXX agencies. Why do we do this? Why is it necessary? We do it because there is much need.

These facts are why it’s necessary:

  • In 2021, there were 62,928 live births in Colorado. (Colorado Department of Health & Environment)

  • About 32% of those babies are from households with incomes less than twice the federal poverty line, placing them at economic disadvantage. (State of Babies)

  • About 82% of pregnant mothers receive coverage from the Women Infant Children (WIC) program, which aims to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care. (State of Babies)

  • In 2021, 556 babies were born to mothers 17 years or younger and 1531 were born to mothers ages 18-19. (Colorado Department of Health & Environment)

There are the babies that are born prematurely or with a low birthweight.

There are the babies that are stillborn or die after birth.

In this country of excess, there are many mothers (and fathers) who have little, if anything, for their newborn baby. We do not want these babies leaving the hospital without dry diapers, something to wear, and something to keep them warm. We provide our layettes to hospitals, clinics, and agencies where they can be distributed to the babies who have little or nothing. It may not be much but we have learned it is enough to give new mothers (and fathers) hope and pride as they take their babies home.

These are only some of the reasons we do what we do. Everyone loves a baby and babies depend on others for everything. If we can provide something that can make their lives better, we will continue to do that.
